Stained Glass Classes


This six-week course will consist of instruction in facets of copper foiled & leaded glass. During the course of the class you will make one foiled project, as well as a leaded window.

Stan and Colleen Price founded Covenant Art Glass in 1979. Stan has extensive training in glass, from working at The Pilchuck Glass School to graduating from PLU (BFA) and Central Washington University (MA), always with glass as the emphasis.

All the staff at our store are very knowledgeable about glass and enjoy teaching the various classes we offer.

Supplies: A tool kit is available and may be purchased at $235.00 plus tax. (reflects a 20% discount) In addition to the tools, other costs would include materials used in constructing your projects.

Mardi Gras Glass Party  - You Are Invited!

Everyone loves a party, so this workshop was designed with you in mind; The Stained Glass artist, the Fuser and the Make-n-Take artist. Drop in, spend an hour and create your own Mardi Gras Glass.

Glass Artists - You know when you have the perfect piece of glass in mind for your project and can't find it. Here is the answer; create your own! We will have stringers, frit and amazing custom vitrigraph colors for you to choose from. The possibilities are endless, the sky is the limit and you are the creator.  We have several options available including doing this class as a party with friends - read on and give us a call if you have any questions.

Advanced Fusing

This is an advanced four day fusing class with an emphasis on the technical and artistic possibilities of glass. International instructor, Patty Gray will reveal secrets for using frit/powders, stringers/noodles, murrini, frit wafers, colorful mica, metals, paints, enamels, and pattern bars. Don't miss this action-packed class, note: hands-on fusing experience is required. The class fee (non-refundable) includes glass, supplies and lunch each day. Class registration is limited. This is one of our most popular classes and it always fills up quickly.

Shattered Glass Workshop

If you love to scrapbook, this class is for you. In this class you will combine scrapbooking, decoupage, art and more to create a mosaic collage created with 1/4- inch plate glass and tempered glass. Images, photos, drawings and more will be bonded to a piece of plywood and grouted. Be ready to be amazed at what you have created!

Ultimate Wine Bottle Workshop

If you had fun in the Bottle Slumping Workshop 101, take the next step and experiment with unique decorating ideas for your slumped wine bottle. We will use special inks, pictures and tissue paper to create a beautiful finished piece that can be used as a cheese tray or hung on the wall as a decoration. Wouldn't it be nice to make something homemade and give it away as a gift?

Wired and Inspired Yard Art

Finally, what to do with all that scrap! This workshop will show you how to arrange and create a 2 foot tower of glass to display in your yard. Pure fun and a little work, we will solder together the shapes and secure them to copper pipe. You will come to the workshop with foiled and pre-tin scrap glass. Basic soldering skills are needed. Come in and see the sample!

Beveled Flakes

A Great Gift! Come make a beautiful Beveled Snowflake for yourself or a friend. Come in and pick up your nuggets and bevels to be prepared for the workshop. You must surface grind on the bevels and
nuggets to add a tooth for the foil to adhere better.

Keepsake Box

Painting 101

Each student will trace and matte a piece of clear glass over a black and white design of their choice. Note: don't worry if you don't understand "trace" and "matte" - that is part of what you will be learning. Sample designs will be available, or students are welcome to bring their own. The size of the project will be 6" x 9".
 

Multiple layers of paint will be applied and the piece will be fired with the goal of creating depth and shading in one firing. By the end of the class, attendees should feel comfortable adding paint to any project. Students will understand the products and the process involved in creating painted projects.

8th Annual Tiffany Lamp Workshop
Taught by Tami Bogdanoff and Nancy Alexander
January - May 2012
If you have been dreaming about building your own Tiffany lamp, this is your year! There will be a time commitment, but well worth it! Odyssey fiberglass lamp forms are among one of the items included in the tuition. Additionally, the students that sign up by October 5th will be included in our meet and greet evening October 19, 2011. We will also take a field trip to the Uroboros glass factory in Portland on November 4, 2011, where you will hand select glass for your lamp.
Time: Every other Wednesday night 6:00 pm to 9:30 pm

Detail in a Day

Each student will complete a 6" x 6" fused and painted tile to take home. This combination of fused glass with paint, frees the artist from the constraints of a lead line. It also opens up the potential for more detail and three dimensional looking images in flat glass.  Students will be offered a paint kit at a great discount so they can continue the process.

Mosaic Mirrors

In this 2-day workshop, you will learn how to make Glass Mosaics for interior applications.  Utilizing the Direct Method and your own sense of color and design, you will construct a beautiful wall mirror.

Beginning Morton Madness

If you have been interested in or have purchased the Morton system and would like to develop your skills, this workshop will be a great help.   Make sure to bring your Morton tools as we will be practicing various cuts.  If you do not own the Morton system yet, classroom sets will be available.

Advanced Morton Madness

Cabochon Gifts  (Glass Pendants)

Come and make a distinctive fused pendant (cabochon) and finish off with a sterling silver bail or internal fused bail.  You will have the opportunity to string your favorite combination of beads on a leather cord.  These make wonderful gifts.  All materials included and no experience necessary. * note - $35.00 for the first pendant and $18.00 for each after that.
New Cabochon technique - Picasso - during this workshop I will have available handmade Picasso cabochons for you to embellish with a dremell tool for a unique pendant. These will need to be fire polished and will not be available for you to take home the night of the workshop. The Picasso cabochons will be $40.00 each. All materials included and no experience necessary.

Renaissance Mosaic Mirror

Learn the art of working with Italian Millefiori, cane and slices. You will construct a mosaic mirror for an interior location in your home or give as a special gift. You will learn construction techniques for the direct method such as preparing the base/support structure, choosing adhesives, applying the grout and adding the finishing touches for a professional look. You will all leave with a beautiful piece of art.
Pre-requisite: Meet with instructor prior to class to pick up template. You will need to have your design drawn out on your template and most of your glass nipped up or cut. You can also include other found objects in your project as well. In the past, some students have used dishes, tiles, shells, and beads. Be creative!

Sandblasting

Sandblasting offers a great way to add detail to your art piece. This technique will add more interest and dimension to your glasswork. Each student will execute a stage blasted piece on plate glass and flashed glass, as well as exploring different types of resists and results. Tuition fee covers all your supplies.

Glassline Interlude

Unleash the wild side of yourself in this unrestricted impressionistic atmosphere while you explore and experiment with tools other than a paint brush. You will create a beautiful 11"x11" fused art piece using Glassline paints and mica powders. Even if you think you do not have an artistic bone in your body, this free flowing class will be a perfect fit.
Glassline paints are compatible with float, 90 COE and 96 COE glass. This fact makes them user friendly for any type of glass you fuse with. These paints do not contain lead and are food safe, which makes it a perfect product for any glass fusing projects.

Fused Stringer Bowl

A fun one day class. Make a unique fused bowl that looks like fabric. No experience necessary. Use layers of glass stringers to create a beautiful pattern that is first fused and then slumped in a mold to create a glass bowl. Materials are ordered in advance. Choose your color palette and call us at least one week prior to the workshop to allow time to order stringers especially for you.

Fused Snowflakes and Icicles

Impressionistic Fused Frit Masterpiece

This class is designed for busy people on the go that want to create something amazing in a short period of time. In this 3 hour class you will become an Impressionist artist defining your masterpiece by colored frit. Create a 11" x 11" tile that becomes a stand-alone art piece or as an option, have it slumped onto a shallow bowl.
Bonus: We will also have a Vitrigraph set up and give you the opportunity to pullyour own stringers, latticino or make spirals by twisting the hot glass that youcan include in your piece.

Solder Sculpting
